Two Roads Community Wellness Update

As we close in on the end of the first quarter in 2014, we’ve been able to put together a summary of the community events Two Roads Professional Resources has been a part of in 2013. Here is an article written by Two Road’s Technical Recruiter Jennifer Phillips:

Giving back to our local community is very important to us here at Two Roads Professional Resources and to do just that, we developed a Wellness Committee in Fall 2010. This committee gets together every 2-3 months to ensure that we make a positive impact each quarter. 2013 was another successful year and we had a blast doing it.

Here is a summary of the year’s events:

March; we visited the Ronald McDonald House in Long Beach where 10 Two Roads staff members made a full-fledged taco bar. We made everything from scratch by having several pots of ground turkey, chopping up the lettuce and tomato, as well as dicing up that delicious onion! It was a truly satisfying experience that our small effort would go such a long way by how we served over 50 families! Just in case you didn’t know, the Ronald McDonald House in Long Beach offers a “home away from home” to families who have a child receiving medical treatment at the CHOC Hospital across the street.

June; Two Roads sponsored our very own Corporate Administrator, Jaime Brogdon in the American Cancer Society Bellflower’s Relay for Life Race. This organization helps raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.

May; five Two Roads representatives trained and gave a good sweat for the Long Beach Non-Profit Children’s Today who help homeless children and put on an annual 5k race! For one Two Roads team member it was her very first 5k! Throughout this fun race we had a great view of the Queen Mary as well as stunning beach views.

September; Two Roads partnered up with Jaime once again for another great cause, the Train 4 Autism race. This time Two Roads contributed to Jaime by matching our in-house contributions!

November; Two Roads caught word from a former employee that there was a low-income Los Angeles elementary school cheerleading squad that was having trouble coming up with enough money for their pom-poms for an up-coming cheer competition. Two Roads immediately donated the necessary money to help these girls partake in such a leadership role, help build confidence, and most importantly promote a positive message to their school and community.

December; Two Roads adopted not only one but two families. Both families consisted of a single mom raising 2 and 4 children! The children’s ages ranged from 11 months to 17 years old. One of the sponsored families came through the city of Bellflower while the other sponsored family came through Collette’s Children Home in Huntington Beach. Collette’s Children Home helps provide a safe place for women and children who have encountered domestic violence and help guide them back to being self-sufficient. The feedback that we received is that they were incredibly grateful and that if it wasn’t for Two Roads, they wouldn’t have been able to have Christmas.

2013 was a fun and rewarding year at Two Roads! If you know of a great organization that would like to be considered by the Two Roads Wellness Committee in 2014 please feel free to let us know! Our primary goal is to create a culture of philanthropy at Two Roads – we meet every couple months to plan events that will support and help the community.
