A Cause For Wellness

2Roads-blogs (2)It’s a great feeling when you can do something great for yourself while doing something good for others! Running charity races is the perfect way to merge those passions. There are so many nationwide events that give runners and athletes of all levels the chance to make a difference in their communities and for people all over the world. These charity races provide a great way to get family and friends involved. Here is a list of just a few events in Southern California alone:

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
This is the world’s largest fundraising event for breast cancer. As of 2010, participation at events throughout the country was setting records, with more than 1.6 million participants. This race series takes place on four continents and prides itself on being an event for people of all fitness levels. Not only do the Race for the Cure events across the country help make a global impact, raising more than $2 billion for research and treatment and support programs, they also give participants a way to celebrate survivors and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Run For The Hungry 10k & 5k Walk/Run
Run for the Hungry was created in 2002 by Michael London, whose vision was to have a premier event on Thanksgiving Day in Downtown San Diego that would benefit people who face hunger in the community. All profits from this race are donated to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and hunger-relief programs such as the JFS Food Mobile and HandUp Food Pantry managed by Jewish Family Service of San Diego.

Race For The Rescues
Held at the Pasadena Rose Bowl, animal lovers of all ages come out to walk or run to support their local animal welfare organizations that help save the lives of cats, dogs and horses, and provide much needed services to the community.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and 17 locations in our region, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.

Our Two Roads Wellness Committee is excited to support our staff participants and all other runners entered in the Long Beach Marathon. All proceeds will benefit local Long Beach Charities and Foundations. Thank you for giving back to your community, and we will see you at the Two Roads Mile 9 booth!
