Mixing Business + Fun Trips

June 19, 2019

Been awhile since I blogged, so here is what I’ve been up to the past two weeks.   I am a firm believer that company leadership must be open and transparent.  Our client partners and employees like to know what is going on behind the work scenes and I try my best to keep things light, fun and productive.   21 years in the recruiting business. We are on top of our game and more connected and productive for our partners then ever.

On the business side, we have been extremely busy so far this year.  Large government contractors serving the satellite industry have kept our recruiters busy supporting requirements across the country.

First up on my travels was San Francisco to watch daughter, Abbey compete in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.  This is a magical event and a must race for any triathletes out there.  You jump off a boat next to Alcatraz and swim the 1.5 miles to shore then jump on a bike for 18 miles and run about 9.  The views are spectacular and the race brings out athletes from all over the world.   My family are big fans and supporters of Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF).

All smiles prior to the race.  Abbey attends college in DC, so she’s used to the icy water…

Quick sales pitch for CAF:  What began as three friends’ kindness and compassion to help one athlete paralyzed in triathlon has now grown into a powerful current that has carried and supported those with physical challenges – empowering them to find community, confidence, and conviction.   CAF supports athletes all over the world – for more info, check out https://www.challengedathletes.org/

The Mighty CAF Crew spreading the good word!

While in town, the NBA finals were rolling into game 4 and we headed across the bay to Oakland’s Oracle Arena.   I have a friend in the coaching business and we were set up courtside.  Amazing to see NBA action so close up – incredible athletes.  The Warriors lost, so that was huge bummer, but we had a great experience.  Thanks Q!

Flew back to Long Beach Sunday afternoon to say hi and bye to the family and head to our annual trade show, Realize Live in Detroit.

Realize Live is a user conference and exhibition for companies that utilize or partner with Siemens PLM products.   Siemens is a worldwide provider of software as well and has numerous other companies in other industries.  Many of our client partners were on hand to learn the most recent versions and enhancements of NX, Teamcenter, Active Workspace and collaborate with the experts.  The show has grown considerably in the past few years and this was the most attended gathering in a couple decades.

I have worked with Siemens leadership for the past 20 years and am honored to be joining their Digital Enterprise Board of Directors.  More on that to come in August!

Sarah explaining the many benefits of using 2R for your recruiting needs!

This was my first trip to Detroit and I must say, the city far surpassed my expectations.    Sarah and I cruised around town, checking out Ford Field (amazing!), home of the Lions and had a extremely productive show.   If ever in town and looking for a killer old-school steakhouse, The London Chop House is the place to go!  For workouts, check out the best gym in town Detroit Body Garage.  Terra will set you up and put you to work!

The Marriott Renaissance Center is the Corporate HQ of General Motors.  Very cool place to stay along the river with incredible views.

Thanks for reading this or at least checking out my photos.   Have a awesome start to your summer and please don’t forget to reach out if you need any career or recruiting help!
